Caroline Cash AC'16 :: Home Isn’t A Place, It’s A Feeling

Updated: May 3, 2020

Hi everyone! My name is Caroline Cash. I am a fourth-year mathematics major. I ran home to Alpha Delta Pi when I was a freshman in 2016. Since joining ADPi, I have held many different positions. Most recently, I served as our Property Manager! As Property Manager I coordinated meals, worked closely with Mom Jere, our house mom, and also worked closely with House Corporation to prepare for our new home! My friendships in ADPi have meant so much to me throughout my college experience. However, living in the ADPi house with my best friends is what truly changed my love for this chapter.

During my junior year, I had the opportunity to live in-house. Living there is easily the highlight of my college experience. When I think of our little blue and white house, I can’t help but smile. I’ve made so many incredible memories there. Living in-house strengthened my old friendships and created new ones. The time that my Alpha Class has spent together there has helped us grow so close throughout college. When we were told that the house was being rebuilt, we decided that we still wanted to spend our senior year living together. Now, 36 of us all live in the same apartment complex. This is a testament to the fact that our chapter is so much more than a house. Our chapter is incredibly unique not only because of the deep love we share for one another, but also because of the lifelong friendships we build during our short time here.

I’ve been able to experience big moments like running home on bid day and watching the new house go up. However, my all-time favorite moments in our home are the small ones. For example, when we crammed into the TV Room on Monday nights to watch the Bachelor, watching my friends run around in masks to scare people (hey Dinah and Addison), and even sitting together in silence while studying last-minute for finals. Each of these memories are something I will cherish forever because I was surrounded by women that mean so much to me. Each of these moments were possible because of our little blue and white house on the corner.

Although I am sad that our old house is gone, I am so thankful for the time I spent in it. I am also very excited for the enduring memories that the new house will create. To the future members that get to call this new house a home: cherish every moment. There won't be another time in your life where you will get to live under the same roof as 60 other girls. There won't be another time in your life where you will have access to 60 different wardrobes. There won’t be another time in your life like the time you spend in ADPi. It goes by way too fast. I’ll never forget the amazing feelings ADPi has filled me with as the years have gone by.

Despite what it currently looks like on the outside, the ADPi house will always mean so much to the past and present members of Gamma Iota. Our house is not special because of how big or beautiful it’s going to be, but because of each member that will soon fill it after it’s completely done. It is a special place because it’s where women have unconditionally loved and supported one another for years. I can confidently say that I am a better friend due to the friendships I have made in Alpha Delta Pi. I am so excited for the future of Gamma Iota. I can’t wait to see the new memories and opportunities that our new house will provide. I hope that the new house will bring as much joy to future members as our old house did for me.
